our partnership with Meningitis Now

Caroline Gardner is proud to support Meningitis Now as the beneficiary charity for it’s annual Christmas card campaign. As a company we have raised in excess of £120,000 and continue to donate and help raise awareness by including information within our charity card packs.

Each pack of Christmas cards proudly displays the Meningitis Now logo and includes information about the charity and their lifesaving work. For every pack sold, 30p will go directly to the charity to fund its campaigns and support families affected by the disease.

Founders Caroline and Angus Gardner chose the charity 15 years ago, having had a personal experience with the illness when their then 6 months old son, Sebastian contracted Meningococcal Septicaemia. Thankfully he recovered and the family looked to help raise awareness and fund raise in the form of Caroline’s specially designed Christmas cards.

Meningitis Now is the founder of the meningitis movement and the only charity dedicated to fighting meningitis in the UK.

With 30 years’ experience, they are working towards a future where no one in the UK loses their life to meningitis and everyone affected gets the support they need to rebuild their lives.

Meningitis Now fights the disease on all fronts:

  • Providing a powerful, united voice for people fighting meningitis.
  • Saving lives by funding vaccine and preventative research.
  • Reducing the disease’s impact through awareness.
  • Rebuilding futures with dedicated support.
  • Fundraising to deliver our plans.

To be there for everyone affected by meningitis, spread lifesaving awareness about the disease and fund research into it, they need over £3 million every year. Without any central Government funding, they rely on people like you to help us raise it.

As Meningitis Now enter their 30th anniversary year, they remain committed to the fight against meningitis. They won’t rest until they have achieved the vision of a future where no one in the UK loses their life to meningitis and everyone affected gets the support they need to rebuild their lives

Thirty years ago, following an outbreak of meningitis in Stroud & Stonehouse in Gloucestershire, a group of parents came together to fight back against this devastating disease. Their aim was to increase public awareness of meningitis and the signs and symptoms, fund research into a vaccine that would save lives, and provide support and information to those who had been affected.

Three decades on, the charity have:

  • Saved lives by funding vaccine research and supporting the introduction of 5 vaccines – HiB, pneumococcal, meningococcal C, ACWY and meningococcal B – the last of which was campaigned for over 2 years to secure its introduction
  • Saved lives through raising awareness and educating health professionals
  • Helped thousands of individuals and their families rebuild their lives after meningitis with our unique range of support for anyone affected, whatever the outcome

Despite the successes, meningitis remains a real and present threat as there are not vaccines for all forms and there are still thousands of new cases every year of viral and bacterial meningitis. There are over 500,000 people in the UK who have had meningitis, impacting them and their families. And there are thousands of people who have lost a loved one.

This year they are aiming to raise new funds to help address complacency around the need to stay vigilant to ensure rapid diagnosis, support high vaccine uptake especially in young people, and to increase knowledge and understanding of the impact of the disease so everyone gets timely information and support.
