National Give Something Away Day

You might be familiar with the old saying 'it's better to give than to receive'. Giving something away that you no longer use is a simple act that can mean the world to someone. That's not all though, the act of re-gifting can give something a second lease of life, and is a brilliant way to prevent waste. Read on to discover our tips for giving something away.

 1. Find your local charity shop

Pass on pre-loved pieces to you local charity shop, and have a good clear out at the same time! If you don't have a charity shop near you, book a collection through charities such as TRAID, and they'll come to your door to collect. Easy peasy!

2. Donate to a free library

Have you noticed any little free libraries dotted around? They're often on residential streets, tucked into walls or even in old phone boxes! Simply pop a book into the library and take another one home to enjoy.

3. Host a clothes swap

Get together with your friends and bring a bag of clothes you've finished wearing. This is a great way to give your wardrobe a refresh; out with the old and in with the new.

4. Gift the produce from your garden

If you love to grow things, why not pop a basket of spare vegetables or flowers outside your house for people to take as they walk by? This is an easy way to gift your neighbours and ensure you don't end up with any waste.
