We have once again collaborated with Waitrose & Partners with not one, but four charity shopping bags to help raise money and awareness for Meningitis Now. We have created two traditional jute shoppers, and two foldaway totes made from recycled plastic bottles.
The handy ‘pouch bags’ are made using Jutexpo’s using their HALT™ process, which turns post-consumer plastic into a soft, durable fabric called rPET (recycled polyethylene terephthalate). The large shopping bags are made from a blend of jute and cotton known as juco, with both bags available in two striking designs.
It takes 700 years for a single plastic bottle to decompose and 10 billion plastic bottles are sent to landfill in the UK every year. Jutexpo HALT these plastic bottles from going into uncontrolled waste streams by recycling post-consumer PET bottles to create innovative reusable bags, adding purpose to what would have otherwise been discarded as waste.
The environmentally friendly bags are priced at just £4 for the pouch bags and £5 for the large juco shoppers, with 40p from the sale of each pouch bag and 50p from the sale of each large juco bag being donated to Meningitis Now.
Meningitis Now is a cause very close to our heart. Founders Caroline and Angus Gardner chose the charity over 16 years ago, having had a personal experience with the illness when their then fifteen-month-old son, Sebastian contracted Meningococcal Septicaemia. Thankfully he recovered and the family looked to help raise awareness through fund raising on behalf of Meningitis Now. The charity funds research into vaccines and prevention, raising awareness so that people know what to look for and what action to take if they suspect meningitis and rebuilding futures by providing dedicated support to people living with the impact of the disease.
Tom Nutt, chief executive of Meningitis Now, said, “We’re thrilled that Caroline Gardner, Waitrose and Jutexpo continue to support us in this way. As a charity that receives no Government funding we rely entirely on the generosity, energy and initiative of our supporters to raise the vital funds we need to carry out our lifesaving and life-changing work.”
We’ve already spotted our brand ambassador Sam from @londonstylesisters using her bag and can’t wait to spot more of you using yours! The bags are available in Waitrose stores now, so pick yours up and don’t forget to tag us in a post or story on instagram so we can see them in the wild!
